To help you get the most from your photoshoot experience, I have put a few ideas together below. The moral of the story is, if in doubt, bring it with you. It is natural for you to feel a bit nervous in the run up to your shoot, hopefully these pointers will help you prepare to keep the nerves at bay.

  1. You may want to consider the outfit you and your family plan to wear for the photoshoot; this includes hair and make-up too. Whilst there is no need to look like you have walked out of a catalogue; planning what you will wear and testing it will avoid any colour clashes. DO wear something that you are all comfortable in, it's so important you are your awesome selves on the day.
  2. Bring at least one change of clothes per person, especially if children and animals are involved. We all know horses are born to slobber on us; and dogs to leave mud and anything else on you too. Children... well enough said! In all seriousness, it helps keep the stress and nerves to a minimum, it's great to have a back-up plan.
  3. It's better to have it and not need it. Bring spare hair ties, brushes, make-up, definitely bring wet wipes regardless of whether you have children or animals for the photoshoot. Wet wipes save the day, always! Moral of the story if you think you might need it, bring it.
  4. Bring snacks and a drink, and maybe for yourselves too! Only kidding! I will bring my own snacks and drink. Bring treats and maybe your dog's favourite toy, this will help keep them focused. Treats for your horse will be helpful, unless you think they will become fixated on the treats.
  5. A helper can be a god send, if your photoshoot includes horses, dogs and/or children. They will be able to assist in ears forwards for horses, holding animals or while you change your clothes changes etc.
  6. Bring an open mind and a positive mindset. Please don't worry about whether you can get your horse to stand up, or your dog to stay still or indeed your children to behave. We have plenty of time to make this a fun and enjoyable experience for everyone; whilst capturing the magic and make memories to look back on forever.
