"I’m Not Photogenic" – Why That’s Simply Not True!

One of the phrases I hear most often before a session is: “I’m not photogenic.” It’s usually said with a nervous laugh, a little shrug, or even a touch of dread. And I get it—the idea of being in front of a camera can feel intimidating.

But here’s the truth: being photogenic isn’t about knowing how to pose or practicing in front of a mirror. It’s about being you. Authentic, natural, and comfortable. That’s where the real magic lives.

I see it in the sparkle of your eyes when you talk about something you love. In the way your dog leans against your leg, your horse nudges you for attention, or your friends and family wrap you up in laughter. These little, unscripted moments are the ones that tell your story—and they’re far more powerful than a perfectly posed picture.

My role as a photographer

My role as a photographer is to help you feel at ease. I guide you gently, create a relaxed space, and encourage natural interactions so you can simply be yourself. Before long, most people forget the camera is even there. That’s when the most genuine images happen—the smiles you didn’t plan, the connections you didn’t notice, the moments you’ll treasure forever.

Authentic photography isn’t about perfection. It’s about connection, storytelling, and capturing the essence of who you are—with your family, your pets, or even in quiet moments of your own.

So if you’ve ever thought, “I’m not photogenic,” I want you to know: you are. You always have been. You just need the right space, the right support, and someone who sees the beauty in your story.
